Austin.

Ranch 616
You get used to it.
The most asked question when I meet someone for the first time is,
"So what do you do?"
After looking me over and sizing me up to try to decide if I am either elementary or middle school, the first question is almost always followed by,
"And where do you teach?"

As a mother of 2 beautiful children in college, a teacher and a HLSR rodeo volunteer, my calendar evolves from summer to summer rather than from January to December. So here goes the next chapter in the story of my life.

Summer 2017 (to Summer 2018) - the year where many new plans and preparations were made.
  • first year as Captain of HLSR Wine Garden
  • brain tumor discovered
Summer 2018 - the year where those plans and preparations moved forward and were carried through. Success was achieved for all ventures.
  • second year as Captain
  • tumor removed
  • recovery period started
Summer 2019 - the year of growth due to fears overcome, obstacles addressed, and life became joyous again.
  • third year as Captain with an added 6th George Strait shift
  • recovery progressed well
New possibilities started to rise the same time I questioned what was truly important in life.

Family. Religion. Educator. Rodeo volunteer.

From 2018-2019, I grew as a person and as a rodeo volunteer in my 3rd year of Captain.

In 2019, I looked for growth opportunities as a high school journalism and oral/written storytelling teacher. It was now time for me to grow in my profession.

So where do I teach?

I am excited to say that this August, I start working for Eanes ISD, a small school district on the west side of Austin, at Westlake High as a journalism, creative writing  and CTE teacher. I could not be more thrilled and scared all at the same time.

I grew up in Houston, and my roots run deep there. I have many good memories, friends, doctors, and family there. And my home is still there. So, looking forward I would prefer to think of this as an expansion of life experiences, a new place to grow additional roots.

And I would not be where I am without the unwavering support from my children, caregiver circle of friends, WMBC friends, SMBC friends, Wine Garden shift team 3, WLN friends, team of doctors, all of the broadcast professionals at KPFT 90.1, my triathlon coaches, all my coworkers, my students/editors for the past 14 years, and so many others.
I I have learned so much from all of the wonderful educators, administrators and students/editors I have had the pleasure to work with over the last 14 years at Bellaire High School in my first job in education. I truly believe that Houston has become one of the most diverse and accepting cities. And as the language magnet school that teaches over 10 different foreign languages, Bellaire High is a model for diversity and acceptance. I will take what I have learned forward with me.

I love teaching, exploring the great state of Texas, and I am excited for the new job!

May life fulfill you at every turn!
My blessings to each of you.
Peacefully,
Linda Hopson
